People with disabilities have consistently described how transportation barriers affect their lives in important ways. A significant number of people living with disabilities so serious that they cannot walk far or use public transit can and do drive. On the other hand, some people are living with such severe disabilities that they cannot leave their houses without substantial assistance, which may mean that their transportation concerns are secondary to the other barriers they face. Mobility constraints are a serious impediment to disability-inclusive development, as they exacerbate the personal, economic, and social isolation of persons living with disabilities.
We believe now is the time to make sure that accessible transport becomes the rule rather than the exception. We assist people who have trouble accessing transport options to get around their local community. There are special taxis for people who use wheelchairs. These taxis are called wheelchair accessible taxis. We can assist you to book these to get around. Trinity Community Services is always there to assist anyone living with a disability that prevents them from undertaking any one of the parts of an unaccompanied journey by public transport in a safe and dignified manner. Examples:
- If you’re unable to walk to the nearest bus stop or
- Get on and off a bus because of pain, respiratory problems.
- Inability to see or hear or you rely on complex walking aids.
- If you need someone else’s help to get around.
- Intellectual or psychiatric disabilities which may mean you need help from someone else.
